Coat Types

The wool (curl) coat is the curliest of the four Cavoodle coat types.
Dogs with wool coat have two copies of the curl genetic markers - One from each parent. Wool coats require maintenance including regular brushing. Breeder may nudge asthma/allergy sufferers towards this coat type.
Fleece (wavy) coats are common in all generations of Cavoodles.
A fleecy coat puppy is soft and wavy , adult coats tend to be more curly in appearance. Dogs with fleece coat have one copy of the curl genetic marker. Fleece coats require moderate maintenance and grooming to prevent matting and to keep the coat tidy.

The Straight (shaggy) coat has become a desirable coat for those involved in multi-generational Cavoodle / Theodore breeding. This coat is smooth and silky in texture and is less likely to matt. With genetic testing breeders are informed about coat requirements and you will see this become a more common coat type in the coming years, as at this time there are only a small number of these coats in our breeding environment

Unfurnished this happens when a puppy inherits two copies of the recessive improper coat gene, also. These puppies typically do not develop the traditional Poodle furnishings such as a beard, moustache, or longer facial hair.
Advancements in genetic testing now allow breeders to make more informed decisions when planning pairings and understanding the coat outcomes that may occur. While unfurnished Cavoodles are still beautiful, loving companions, they may shed more than a furnished Cavoodle and generally have a lower-maintenance coat with less grooming requirements.
This coat type is specific to Cavoodle breeding and is not expected within our Havoodle or Munchkin Bernedoodle programs.
